The Department of Sociology in collaboration with Fatmid Foundation organized a full day Blood Donation Camp at the University of Swabi. Worthy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Noor Jehan inaugurated the event with a ribbon cutting ceremony. A large number of students as well as staff members from various departments participated in this activity with full zeal.
The purpose behind this drive was to increase awareness and motivation about voluntary blood donation thereby supporting Fatimid Foundation in its noble cause of helping patients in urgent need of blood. Blood donation is crucial for a multitude of life threatening diseases such as anemia, cancer, kidney disease, surgery, childbirth, trauma and so forth. Emergent blood transfusion is often life saving in such situations.
The blood donation drive was held from 10:00 AM until 02:00 PM. Throughout the duration, a steady inflow of volunteers was maintained. Each volunteer was screened with the necessary tests before donating blood according to the WHO guidelines. Donors were provided with refreshments.
A total of 45 volunteers from students and staff members donated blood. This reflected the strong motivation of the participants toward this virtuous cause.
Prof. Dr. Noor Jehan spoke on the occasion highlighting the importance of this sacred human cause. She said that blood donation is a divine experience as people receiving blood donation get a new life. She urged the organizers to ensure the safe transfusion of the blood donations to needy patients and to provide the donors with the results of their screening tests.
Prof. Dr. Noor Jehan also spoke to the students on this occasion and said that very few people are actually donating blood and that such activities are necessary to increase voluntary blood donation, as this is a life saving activity. She appreciated the concerted efforts of the Sociology department and Fatimid foundation in organizing this charitable event.
