Each year International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. The first International Women's Day was held in 1911. Thousands of events occur to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women.
All around the world, International Women's Day represents an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women while calling for greater equality. Organisations, governments, charities, educational institutions, women's groups, corporations and the media celebrate the day.
University of Swabi also organised an event to celebrate International Women’s Day to recognize the achievements of Women’s across all fields using this year theme Make it Happen. The theme aimed at encouraging effective action for advancing and reorganizing women.
Mrs.Hashmat Iqbal, first female Auditor General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the Chief Guest. She along with many other notable females from the province graced the occasion. Female poets from the province also poured their hearts out regarding the importance of the day.
Prof. Dr. Noor Jehan Vice Chancellor University of Swabi in her address said that the purpose of celebrating women’s day is to sent message to all the women to play a their role in the socio-economic development of the society.. She also shared the struggle she made while hunting for education and career.
The highlight of the day was the recent International Women Achievers’ Award bestowed upon Prof. Dr. Noor Jehan by IWAA, Canada for being Women of Distinction in recognition of her services for socioeconomic development and continues struggle for the promotion of education.Her Highness Princess of Canada will present this IWAA Women of Distinction Award to Prof Dr. Noor Jehan at Toronto, Canada. All the Faculty, staff, students and guests congratulated her on achieving this distinction.
