1.      Bacteriophages

The use of phages as a therapeutic agent was first given by D’ Herelle. Recently a large number of bacterial species develop resistivity against different antibiotics through mechanism of efflux pump, modifying enzymes and target mutations. Infections caused by MDR pathogens are unable to treat and require more time and expensive antibiotics which toxic to human health. The focus is on isolation of different phages and their activity against pathogenic strains.

2.      Biodegradation and Biosynthesis

Plastic exist in both degradable and non-degradable forms; their degradation may be catalysed by esterolytic enzymes such as esterases, lipases or cutinases. Therefore, I am working on microbiological possibility for degradation of different plastic and also in search of bacteria and fungi which can be use for synthesis of plastics from different waste products

3.      Phosphate solubilizing microorganisms

Phosphorus (P) is one of the major essential macronutrients for plants and is applied to soil in the form of phosphatic fertilizers. However, a large portion of soluble inorganic phosphate applied to the soil as chemical fertilizer is immobilized rapidly and becomes unavailable to plants. The use of phosphate solubilizing bacteria as inoculants increases the P uptake by plants. I am working on isolation, screening and characterization of phosphate solubilizing microorganisms from soil.

4.      Heavy Metal Remediation

In last few decades the increase concentration of different heavy metals causes environmental contaminations. Due to high increase in the use of heavy metals in various industries such as textile, painting, leather etc also raise human exposure to heavy metals. Keeping in view the importance of Heavy metals contamination and its impact on health this area will focus onto evaluate the potential role of metallo-resistant microorganisms in remediation of heavy metals.
